10 Questions with Harriet Edwards

harriet lily blog interview evemy and evemy evemy & evemy

Summer is well and truly upon us and we have been really enjoying seeing all your snaps on social media of your various adventures.  We wanted to find out a little more about a country girl’s summer, so who better to ask than all-round country girl Harriet Edwards!? Read on for a few Harriet’s summer snippets plus some great style and country pursuit tips.

Favourite summer event?

If Burghley still counts as Summer then definitely that, I’ve been going every year since I was little.

Go-to country wear item?

My Fairfax & Favor Explorers – perfect for any occasion or terrain no matter what the weather. They’re guaranteed to add some style to your outfit, even if said outfit is a pair of dirty jods and straw in your hair!

Best riding tip?

Learn how to hang on and don’t switch off (if you have horses like mine, you’ll be on the floor before you know it!) If you can do that, you’ll be able to conquer just about anything!

Summer style advice?

Layers! The British Summer is very unpredictable so you always want to be prepared for extremes. My go to summer essentials are a decent pair of white jeans (I love the new Teddy Edward Cissie Jeans), or a simple shirt dress that can be accessorised with a country style belt (my favourite is the Badminton belt from Mackenzie and George) and some jewellery – I’m loving the new long chain cherry roller necklace from Hiho, it’s the perfect accessory!

Favourite summer drink?

I guess the correct answer here is Pimms, but I love a good G&T. My favourite at the moment is British Polo Gin – they have a fabulous recipe for a ‘Chukka Cocktail’ – so refreshing and very moreish!

Best shooting tip?

Don’t think about your last shot. Definitely a piece of advice I need to take more notice of, if I start badly I find that generally sets the tone for the day, because I’m so worried about how badly I shot the first clay/bird that I don’t concentrate on the rest!

Favourite holiday destination?

I am lucky enough to have visited the Maldives a couple of times and I don’t honestly think I’ll want to go on another beach holiday again unless it’s there. That said, I love holidays in the UK (if the weather’s behaving!) – my favourite destination is Devon.

Packing essential?

A good pair of shorts – I always pack way too much and then end up wearing my favourite (very old and now too big) denim shorts most days!

Summer song?

Summer of ’69, cheesy but it takes me right back to Young Farmers barn dances!

Favourite country homeware piece?

Can I pick two? Without a doubt a good teapot – there isn’t a problem that can’t be solved without tea. My Doris & Co ‘Hold Fast’ teapot is my absolute favourite – big enough for lots of tea! My other favourite has to be a good blanket, perfect for cosying up on a cold Winter evening in front of the fire.

Sounds like Harriet has been having a great summer. You can keep up with Harriet's blog A Girl About Country here.
