Interview with Emily King

emily king evemy and evemy interview

A little while ago we were given the opportunity to send our Barley cape to our wonderful friends at Hiho Silver for a photo shoot they were doing with the lovely Emily King - lucky us! For those of you who don't know Emily King, Emily is a British Event Rider who is going places fast having already competed at CCI**** level internationally. Emily is also a Brand Ambassador for Hiho Silver. After the shoot, we took the opportunity to chat to Emily about her career so far, the future and her personal style.

  1. What is your favourite equestrian event and why?

Badminton Horse Trials, without question! It's just such an historic and prolific event, set on the most beautiful estate... to me it's THE event to win. Badminton is known amongst us riders as the biggest and most testing CCI****, so therefore to win it, you really do become respected as a true champion. I was lucky enough to compete there last year on Brookleigh... after lying 2nd going into the cross country, we had a fall at the second to last fence, which was devastating... being so close, but yet so far... anyway I completely fell in love with competing there... and I can't wait to have a horse up at CCI**** again whom I can take. Hopefully it won't be long!!

  1. Tell us about a highlight of your eventing career so far.

Finishing 4th at Pau CCI**** on Brookleigh when I was 19 years old. It was an incredible event – it was mine and Brook's first CCI****... we both rose to the occasion and delivered our best performance to date, against the world's top riders. I finished the highest placed Brit, highest placed female, and I also the youngest in the competition (by about 15 years!!). It really was a week to remember!

  1. Do you have any tips for aspiring eventers?

Follow your dreams and work hard until your idols become your rivals!

  1. What are your goals for the year ahead?

To compete Dargun successfully at Blenheim CCI***, and hopefully be selected to ride at the Young Horse World Championships at Le Lions D'Anges on Quinlan Z in October.

  1. How would you describe your off-duty style?

Relaxed and practical! I like to dress up slightly more when I'm going out but generally I go for the relaxed look... I live in sneakers!

We hope you enjoyed learning a little more about Emily. We would like to say a massive thanks to Emily King and Hiho Silver for this interview.
