Interview with Eventer Lici Hawker

Wasn’t Badminton thrilling this year? We absolutely love this exhilarating annual event in the equestrian calendar. It was even more exciting for us this year to see Eventer Lici Hawker’s Badminton debut where she styled our Equus scarf beautifully for the trot-up. We decided to catch-up with Lici to find out a little more about completing her first Badminton, her out of the saddle style and what the rest of the season has in store

How did you find your first experience of competing at Badminton?

It was really special. Having visited Badminton Horse Trials every year since I was a child it was a brilliant opportunity to compete with my horse Charlie. I also live locally to Badminton so it was fantastic to have the support of so many friends and family from my village. Needless to say, Charlie travelled very well too!!

Where can we see you competing next this season?

I have my fingers crossed to compete with Charlie at Burghley or Pau. I’m also competing at one event per week with my other horses. We’re off to Chepstow and Hartpury plus other trials this season.

Can you tell us a bit about your style when you’re not in the saddle?

My style is really comfy and casual. I absolutely love trainers and have a rather large collection in all different colours and shapes. I live in jumpers too

How did you start eventing and what do you like most about the sport?

I first got my passion for eventing in Pony Club when I was really little. I then went on to train with British Eventing for 11 years. I really love cross country and I’m not so much of a fan of the dressage!

Can you tell us a fun fact about your horse Charlie?

His favourite treat is Haribo Tangfastics! He especially loves the Coca Cola bottles. He used to make a funny face when he ate them as they are so sour but now he’s just used to them!

It was great to catch up with Lici and hear a little more about how the season is going. We wish her the best of luck with the rest of her competitions.

We also wanted to give special thanks to The Bit UK.
